CP's Holiday Train and Meal Exchange team up to spread awareness about helping t

CALGARY, Nov. 21 /CNW/ - With Canadian Pacific's Holiday Train less thantwo weeks away from hitting the rails as North America's largest rolling foodbank fundraiser, one organization is stepping up to help spread the word andget young Canadians excited about supporting their neighbours and theircommunities.

Meal Exchange, a national student-founded, student-driven organization,has given the Holiday Train top profile on their website and is spreading the word to its national network of more than 40 universitiesand colleges.

"After nine successful years of running the Holiday Train program,nothing excites CP more than partnering with a dynamic organization like MealExchange, now on board to collaborate with us in raising food, money andawareness for the 700,000 Canadians who rely on food banks each month," saidMark Seland, Director of Communications and Public Affairs for CanadianPacific. "We expect to have a great youth presence at our events, supportingthis great cause and enjoying the musical talents of our Holiday Trainperformers Wide Mouth Mason and Melanie Doane.

"The Holiday Train is a great fit with Meal Exchange's mandate to provideyoung Canadians meaningful opportunities to help reduce local hunger," saidDave Kranenburg, Executive Director for Meal Exchange. " We are encouragingour large contingent of student volunteers to attend the Holiday Train eventswith donations in hand and, where possible, help their local food banks in theplanning for the Holiday Train's arrival."

Since its launch in 1999, the Holiday Train program has raised over$3 million CDN and close to 1.6 million pounds of food for North American foodbanks. The 2007 Canadian Holiday Train leaves Montreal, PQ on December 1,ending in Port Moody, BC on December 18 (complete schedule is available on). All donations collected in each community remain in thatcommunity for local distribution.
