Investor Education: Media Center Gives You A Visual On Vital Stock Data

This Site:en.yinlu.net Source:en.yinlu.net Writer: Time:2007-09-14
Remember when the only way to get your stock quotes or news was by reading the newspaper, watching TV or contacting your broker?

Much has changed, and investors.com is a testament to that. The sister Web site to IBD, launched in 2000, now offers an electronic version of the paper, stock listings and tools to help you screen for stocks.

The site constantly adds new content and features to help quench users' thirst for more information. Media Center, one of the more recently added features, offers a multimedia experience with video and audio feeds.

How to use it: To access these informative clips, go to the investors.com home page, and click on Media Center, which is on the left side of the page under the News & Analysis section.

A new window will open up. The video part of Media Center contains four main sections: Markets Desk, Market Wrap, The New America Report and Education. Three features that usually vary based on which are newest, should show up in the new window.

But you can access any of them by clicking on More Videos and using the pull-down menu. Or view all the video content by date, with the most recent ones listed first.

To see the content, you need to have a flash player installed on your PC. You can download one from adobe.com for free.

The Markets Desk, an intraday video market update, provides unique content including general market analysis and leading stocks that are making big moves on heavy volume. Market Wrap covers what transpired in each day's session.

The New America Report gives viewers the lowdown on what's helping drive growth at a company that sports solid fundamentals. Apparel retailer Guess (NYSE: - ), is among recently featured stocks.

You can find the following under Education in the pull-down menu:Guide To CAN SLIM, 20 Rules For Investment Success, Investing FAQs and Buy & Sell Rules.

The Guide to CAN SLIM is a video introduction to IBD founder and Chairman William O'Neil's investment formula. Each letter stands for traits shown by past market winners prior to their big price rallies.

You will find out why you should look for strong earnings and sales growth, new products and institutional sponsorship, as well as other pertinent criteria.

The video version of IBD's 20 Rules For Investment Success (on the Investor Education page each day) covers common characteristics shared by the most successful stocks from 1880 to 2005.

Investing FAQs touch on topics ranging from dividends to company earnings to chart types. The Buy & Sell Rules offer tips to help you make sound decisions on when to buy or sell stocks.

For instance, Rule 1 explains why you should only buy during a market uptrend. On the sell side, Rule 4 reminds investors to cut their losses if a stock falls 8% below the price they paid for it.

In the audio section of Media Center, you can listen to radio interviews with William O'Neil, as well as IBD market writers.

Multimedia content is expanding to other areas of investors.com as well. Video DSA (Daily Stock Analysis) is a new feature on investors.com.

It offers a detailed analysis of a stock chart, with key points highlighted as they're explained.

From the investors.com home page, click on Daily Stock Analysis under the News & Analysis section. Just above the company name, you'll see a link for the video, with a video camera icon next to it.

Tips and tricks: Interested in finding out more about stocks mentioned in the current Markets Desk video? No need to visit other areas.

Below the Markets Desk written summary, you'll see up to three ticker symbols. Click on the checkmark, the first icon next to the name, to pull up the IBD Stock Checkup on the company. The second icon will call up a stock chart.
