The 'Hannah Montana' Stock Index

You may not know Hannah Montana, but chances are your 10-year-old niece does. Hannah Montana is the extremely popular television series that stars Miley Cyrus, the 14-year-old daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus, the country crooner-turned-actor who happens to play the father of the title character.

The series follows the fictional life of a teenage girl named Miley Stewart who leads a double life as both a popular music star named Hannah Montana and a regular girl next door who hides her famous identity so she can live a normal life out of the spotlight. Last week, the show was No. 7 on the Nielsen Ratings of all cable network television shows, with 4.99 million viewers.

The show and star's immense popularity has prompted Stockpickr.com and Stockerblog.com to put together a , which tracks the companies connected to the Hannah Montana franchise.

Hannah Montana is one of Disney's most successful television shows, popular among "tweens" between the ages of 10 and 14. It's also one of the company's most thriving brands, with books, soundtracks, games, puzzles, dolls, bedding and costumes.

As an example of how successful the Hannah Montana brand is, tickets to the multiple-city Hannah Montana Live Tour have sold out so quickly that scalpers have reportedly been getting as much as $2,500 per ticket.

Disney has a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 18, a P/E-to-growth (PEG) ratio of 1.2 and a yield of 0.9%. Disney is set to announce quarterly earnings on Nov. 8.

Another popular Hannah Montana product is the video game the show inspired -- actually three video games: Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour, Hannah Montana: Music Jam and Hannah Montana DS. The games were created for the Nintendo DS and Wii video-game platforms. Nintendo has a P/E ratio of 18.

Apple also has a connection to Hannah Montana. The Hannah Montana Soundtrack, Holiday Edition was released through the iTunes Music Store at the end of 2006 and proved to be a very successful seller. Apple, which has continued to hit new highs recently, has a P/E of 49 and a PEG of 2.

The show's star, Miley Cyrus, has appeared in numerous People articles and was featured on the cover of the magazine in July. People is published by Time Inc., a subsidiary of Time Warner. Time Warner has a P/E of 11.2, a PEG of 1.3 and a yield of 1.4%.

Although not official endorsements, according to a USA Today interview, Miley Cyrus has stated that The Cracker Barrel and Long John Silver's, which is owned by Yum! Brands, are her two favorite restaurants. Cracker Barrel has a P/E of 7.5, a PEG of 1 and a yield of 1.9%. Yum! has a P/E of 22.7, a PEG of 1.9 and a yield of 1.6%.
