Dollar Mixed, Gold Higher in Europe

LONDON (AP) -- The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in European trading late Friday. Gold rose.

The euro was quoted at $1.3632, down from $1.3637 late Thursday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.3638.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Thursday, included 116.09 Japanese yen, up from 115.74; 1.2077 Swiss francs, up from 1.2027; and 1.0564 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0586.

The British pound was quoted at $2.0149, up from $2.0135.

In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 115.72 yen and 1.2069 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $2.0174.

Gold traded in London at $672.40 bid per troy ounce, up from $666.95 late Thursday. In Zurich, gold traded at $670.80 bid per troy ounce, up from $665.25. Gold rose $1.90 in Hong Kong to $668.25.

Silver was priced in London at $11.97, up from $11.87.
