Dollar, Gold Mixed in Europe
The euro traded at $1.4782, up from $1.4667 late Monday in New York. Earlier, the 13-nation currency reached a new record against the dollar of $1.4797. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.4783.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Monday, included 110.29 Japanese yen, up from 109.85; 1.1112 Swiss francs, down from 1.1159; and 0.9841 Canadian dollars, up from 0.9831.
The British pound was quoted at $2.0643, up from $2.0497.
In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 121.18 yen and 1.2474 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9569.
Gold traded in London at $793.00 per troy ounce, up from $776.35 late Monday.
In Zurich, gold traded at $792.25 a troy ounce, up from $774.35. Gold closed at $787.05 an ounce in Hong Kong, down from Monday's close of $788.45.
Silver traded in London at $14.58, up from $14.14.
