DRS Technologies Wins Navy Contract

The initial contract award is for $50 million. If all contract options are exercised, the work will be finished by August 2012.

DRS will manage, engineer and support a network that will provide phone service, e-mail, Internet access and video chat capabilities for U.S. service members in Iraq and Afghanistan to communicate with people in the U.S.

The contract was awarded by the U.S. Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, in Charleston, S.C.

The company's DRS Technical Services unit in Dulles, Va., will perform the work for the contract.

DRS shares gained 70 cents to $50.81 in morning trading.
