Study: ImClone Drug Improves Survival

This Site:en.yinlu.net Source:en.yinlu.net Writer: Time:2007-11-16
NEW YORK (AP) -- ImClone Systems Inc. said Wednesday data from a study showed its Erbitux cancer drug improves survival rates in advanced colorectal cancer cases when used alone.

ImClone developed Erbitux and markets it with Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. The drug was approved in October by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat colorectal cancer.

The Phase III clinical trial compared survival rates in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer when treated with Erbitux versus chemotherapy. It was conducted by the National Cancer Institute of Canada Clinical Trials Group and the results were published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

"These data demonstrate that ERBITUX may provide certain colorectal cancer patients with additional time even when other available treatment options have failed," Bristol-Myers' oncology director, Dr. Maurizio Voi, said in a statement.

ImClone shares added 20 cents to $44.22 in electronic aftermarket trading, after closing Wednesday at $44.02.
