Nasdaq's Market Share Loss on Own Bourse

Nasdaq's total share of trades in stocks listed on its own exchange slipped to 70.8 percent from 72.8 percent in June, and from 76.2 percent in July 2006.

During July, Nasdaq handled 61.7 percent of all U.S. equities trades, compared with 56.8 percent in the July 2006 period and 61.8 percent in June.

Nasdaq Stock Market executed trades for 17.5 percent of the traded equities listed on the New York Stock Exchange, compared with 15.9 percent in June and up from 10.8 percent in the July 2006 period.

Nasdaq's total reported market share for exchange traded funds, or ETFs, was 51.3 percent.

Shares rose 86 cents to $31.67 in afternoon trading.
