De Beers to Sell Cullinan Mine

The disposal is one of several in the country that De Beers is making as the company seeks to boost its margins.
De Beers in February said it would seek offers for Cullinan and for the underground mines in and around Kimberley in South Africa's Northern Cape province.
Located about 25 miles east of Pretoria, the Premier Mine was founded in 1902 but renamed Cullinan in November 2003. It has turned out some of the world's largest gems, including the 3,106-carat Cullinan Diamond that was cut to form the 530-carat Great Star of Africa and the 317-carat Lesser Star of Africa set in the Crown Jewels of Britain.
